Blackhawks Summer 2010 House League
The Blackhawks organization is unique in its hybrid approach to summer lacrosse, combining the best of travel and house lacrosse at both the high school and U15 levels. Some of the Blackhawks most talented players chose not to travel, and Blackhawks travel players participate in the house programs. Players, both travel and non-travel, are assigned to house teams and participate in a series of house games throughout the summer in which statistics are kept. Some house players who may not have made a travel team are invited to join the travel team later in the summer based upon their performance in the house leagues. The Blackhawks give award to team champions as well as to deserving individuals in the house program.
In this way, the Blackhawks are working to make high school players better while minimizing the "elitism" that has had such a harmful impact on high school lacrosse in the Triad and elsewhere.
On Thursday, July 15, the Studs edged the Squirrels in the High School House League Championship in a 4-3 heartstopper, finishing with a 6-1-2 record and earning the coveted Lord Fiery Trophy. Stud middie Daniel Richards was named House Player of the Summer. Daniel ended up as both the leading scorer and leader in ground balls in the summer-long competition. Coach Hugh Fiery was named House Coach of the Summer for his nurturing of his overachieving Squirrels throughout the House season.
In U15 action, the Lizards and Atoms ending in a dead heat for first place, each winning 3 games and each scoring and allowing exactly 25 goals. Congratulations to both teams and to their head coaches Adam Jones and Rob Leonard on an outstanding summer. Lizard middie/attackman Tshepe Dithane was named U15 House Player of the Summer, finishing tied for first place in scoring and near the top in ground balls.
