BLACKHAWKS SUMMER 2010 TRAVEL TEAMS

The Triad Blackhawks are pleased to announce that for the first time they will field three travel teams, two at the high school level and one at the U15 level.  Unlike many other programs, these travel teams promote the Blackhawks player-development ideal by adhering to playing time guidelines and by offering many players their first opportunity to play competitive travel lacrosse.  The high school teams represent twelve (12) different Triad high schools and every high school grade level.  The U15 team represents ten (10) different Triad middle schools and high schools.

The Black team will compete in the high school A division and the Silver team will compete in the High School B division.  The Blue team will compete in the U15 division.

June 13.  The Black team beat Team Battlelax 7-5 in the summer season's first game, before its 16-man roster took its toll in the heat in losses to Battlelax Bombers and Team Charlotte in the Battlelax Shootout in Cary.

June 17: A mixed Black/Silver team beat the Piedmont Bucs (Page HS) 7-3 and then had to turn right around and play a rested Old North State Orange team, losing 8-4.

June 20: Congratulations to the Black team on their victory over the Outlaws and two victories over Old North State at the inaugural Blaze at the Beach in Wilmington.  The Black team's best game, however, was a 4-3 overtime loss to the Outlaws in the second of consecutive games for the Hawks.

June 27:  The Black team -- the Triad area's only entry in the challenging High School A division -- ran into several regional all-star squads at this weekend's Southern Sizzle in Charlotte but stayed within two goals in all games except the tournament opener.  The Black team continues to show improvement as it prepares for the Summer Sizzle in Baltimore on July 17-18.

July 14:  A talented Winston-Salem squad, led by Team Carolina star Chase Watts, overcame a 3-1 halftime deficit to beat the Black team this afternoon at Guilford Middle School as both teams prepared to represent the Triad in the top division of the upcoming Summer Sizzle.

July 17-18:  The Black team came from behind for an upset tie over Maryland Tribe Maroon, the eventual division champe, then stunned a talented Fuze Gold squad 2-1 in the Saturday nightcap to seriously contend for a playoff spot in this weekend's Summer Sizzle.  A 5-4 loss to New York's Rockland Select on Sunday after falling behind 4-0 ended the playoff run. In its last two games Sunday, the Black team fell behind early, then outplayed its opponents the rest of the way. Black showed that it truly belonged with the elite teams in the tournament with its much-improved play.

June 13.  The Silver team played with a 16-man roster in the heat today at the Battlelax Shootout in Cary, taking three losses but playing its best game in its final game against the formidable Outlaws.

June 17: A mixed Black/Silver team beat the Piedmont Bucs (Page HS) 7-3 and then had to turn right around and play a rested Old North State Orange team, losing 8-4.

June 27: The Silver team pulled out ties against the Atlanta Blue Jays and the Alamance War Dogs in exciting games at the Southern Sizzle in Charlotte.

June 30: In scrimmage action, a combination of travel and non-travel players tied the Alamance War Dogs 3-3 at Northeast Park.  They then had to turn right around and take on a fresh and well-stocked Old North State team that used several of its Orange team players, playing valiantly before running out of gas and losing 9-1.  As the Silver team copes with roster adjustments, it will continue to focus on fundamentals in preparation for the Summer Sizzle in Baltimore on July 17-18.

July 7:  A mixed travel and non-travel team took a bit of a pounding from the Alamance War Dogs today, 13-4, but got valuable experience for some of the Blackhawks newer players.

July 17-18.  The spirited Silver team held a lead well into the game against the Central PA Dawgs before losing late; gave Jersey Elite Training a great game in a 4-1 loss; and then had tournament finalist Greene Turtle on the ropes well into the second half before losing in Silver's best and last game of the season in this weekend's Summer Sizzle in Baltimore.

June 27: The Blackhawks first-ever Blue team, under the direction of Triad coaching icon Billy Hook, achieved nearly a one-to-one goals to assists ratio in five games in this weekend's Southern Sizzle in Charlotte.  The Blue team had a key victory against Excell, 1-0, a game in which they dominated but in which they had trouble finding net on their numerous shots.

June 30.  The fast-improving Blue team used tenacious ground ball play and outstanding ball movement on offense to beat the Piedmont Lacrosse Club 11-5 at Children's Home in Winston-Salem.

July 14:  The Blue team kept the game close against Winston-Salem today before succumbing to fatigue and careless play in a 9-3 loss.

July 17-18.  The Blue team scored in every game but was unable to take home a victory in this weekend's A Division action at the Summer Sizzle in Baltimore.  The team received many compliments on its passionate and well-coached play and improved as the tournament went along.
