December 12 --The Triad Blackhawks' concluded their fall season today at the UNC Holiday Showcase with some exciting play against some of the area's top teams -- including three all-star teams -- almost pulling an upset against the defending state 4A champ Providence Panthers. While the ledger won't show wins, it will show some of the Blackhawks' best efforts of the season in the second half of its game against Top Tier I and the first half of the Providence game. The 'Hawks held a 4-2 halftime lead on the Panthers before succumbing to fatigue and the spectacular play of all-everything Duke signee Braxton Deaver to lose 8-4. In each, the offense showed precision and the defense showed its trademark tenacity, with Aaron Jones leading the offense and Brad Carter leading the defense. Throughout the tournament, DJ Potter was solid in goal and, after some early game problems with transition defense were corrected, the team really worked well together, showing marked improvement on both sides of the field as the tournament went on. Thank you to the players who participated and to the coaches and parents who came out bright and early in bone-numbing conditions to support our boys in black and silver.
